Walk-around Review of the Olympus 25mm 1.8 + Photo samples

Woa.

After spending a few days and a few nights with this lens… I can honestly say I support it.  This is an AMAZING lens.  And after reading Robin Wong’s comparison between this and the Panasonic 25mm 1.4, I am very happy with my purchase.  Here’s the thing, professionally I shoot various types of photos.  Typically Wedding and Life Style pictures, and my go to camera is my trusty 5D3.  Thing is a work horse.  However, for my day to day activities, such as golfing and hanging out with my boo, I want something that is easy to lug around, compact, and takes phenomenal photos.  A few years ago this would have been an unrealistic expectation, but since I got my paws on a OMD E-M5, my expectations were halfway met!  I had been holding out on purchasing a lens for this MFT system because I was so used to the 50mm focal length on my Full frame camera, and couldn’t seem to find that perfect 50mm equivalent. Sure there was the Panasonic and Oly 25mm 2.8, but for some reason I never pulled the trigger on them.  I hovered over the buy button for the Panasonic 25mm 1.4 a bunch of times, but never took the plunge. I guess price, build quality, looks, handling and focus speed played a major role in my decision not to go through the the PanaLeica lens.

Once Olympus announced they would be adding a 25mm 1.8 variant to their current prime lens lineup, it instantly peaked my interest.  Since I am very comfortable with the 50mm focal length, I found myself hovering over that buy button again… only this time for the Olympus 25mm 1.8.  I don’t want to seem as if I am hyping this lens up, heck, my last 3 posts have been about it… but, I can’t get over how amazing this lens is!  So, here is a sweet video that my Wife and I put together to show you guys how gorgeous this lens is.  The image quality is OUT OF THIS WORLD, Seriously amazing!  Like for reals, stunning image quality, gorgeous image quality, FANTASTIC IMAGE QUALITY! The price point is aggressive, and from what I have read it’s right up there with the Panasonic competitor… if not better.

The below video was made for your viewing pleasure, so please enjoy it.  The attached images were all taken with my Olympus OMD E-M5 and the Oly 25mm 1.8, all shot wide open at f1.8, using the Vibrant color profile within the camera.  All JPEG’s are right out of the camera, no processing or color correction after the fact.  At all.

Just as a heads up I’m not into pixel peeping, but please feel free to do so.  I’m all about how images look at their natural focal length, not 5x zoomed in.  I mean, sometimes CA and other distortion needs to be cleaned up, but from what I can see with this lens… there is a very manageable amount of that stuff.  Go crazy with the full sized images.

Enjoy the visuals!  If you want to help, and are considering to buy this lens, click this link as it helps pay for the site – (Olympus 25mm f1.8 Interchangeable Lens)
